crickson says:

I think I speak for the majority of Britons when I say:

'Do we bollocks!'

11th Aug 2006, 22:31

Crickson, I was trying to think of a more eloquent way of putting it, but I think you summed it up for me.

11th Aug 2006, 22:36

Caine says:

I'm with Crickson on this one.

11th Aug 2006, 22:37

Hotdog says:

They could of at least got the fucking flag the right way up.

That union flag is upside down,

11th Aug 2006, 22:40

crickson says:

I've no wish to offend anyone, but I'm tired of my nation be treated like sh*t by the US, and I'm tired of my Prime Minister being Bush's poodle. And I'm tired of seeing the Union Flag upside down.

11th Aug 2006, 22:41

crickson says:

Ah, Hotdog = your sharp eyes just beat me to it! : )

11th Aug 2006, 22:42

Mandy. says:

me.

11th Aug 2006, 22:45

Hotdog says:

It probalbly does refer to that.
But at least show a little bit of respect at get the flag flying the right way up.

11th Aug 2006, 22:48

bronxelf says:

I'm tired of Bush, and nationalistic flag waving, in general.

And I'm tired of graphic designers who can't tell when a flag is upside down. This is not so hard to figure out, people.

11th Aug 2006, 22:49

Mandy. says:

i can't wait for 2008. where's my time machine.

11th Aug 2006, 22:51

crickson says:

What terrorists? After the farce of DeMenezes (apologies if spelt wrong), the sarin attack that never was, the chemical bomb that inexplicably failed to be...

Forgive me if I'm cynical.

11th Aug 2006, 22:53

Mandy. says:

i know that i appreciate the level of security in heathrow. when i compare it to other international airports, the difference is striking. so thanks. or whatever.

11th Aug 2006, 22:58

gofes says:

Nice one Boyo.

11th Aug 2006, 22:59

Twiglet says:

What Crickson said, especially the bit about bollocks.

11th Aug 2006, 23:00

Viv says:

speechless so I'll go and stand by Crickson !

11th Aug 2006, 23:04

Rich says:

Well, err, there was that, y'know, London Tube Bombing... Frankly a few near-misses are preferable to x amount of people dying.

But yes, generally icky-poo sentiments.

11th Aug 2006, 23:04

Mandy. says:

this is not the community i thought it was.

11th Aug 2006, 23:07

Rich says:

What community did you think it was? One not made up of peoiple with their own opinions?

11th Aug 2006, 23:10

Hotdog says:

I would not be cynical.
There is a threat, it is real

11th Aug 2006, 23:11

Twiglet says:

Threat or not I'm not going to apologise for not wanting Britain to be regarded as a state of America.

11th Aug 2006, 23:13

Hotdog says:

I'm with you on the 51st State thing.

11th Aug 2006, 23:15

crickson says:

I'll probably offend a few people when I say:

The London tube bombing was a very minor incident of domestic terrorism commited by wannabes and it annoys me no end when it is compared with the attacks on NY and Madrid that killed orders of magnitude more people.

I cannot see how '7/7' is indicative of some international Islamic conspiracy against the UK.

The threat is trivial, I remember IRA attacks in London when I was growing up. Somehow we struggled on.

11th Aug 2006, 23:23

Viv says:

Mandy - think you could take things too seriously and that can be dangerous

This blogging community loves to communicate with other people
it is fairly free spirited

- but the majority of brits don't like being tied to the american govt especially this one!

nor do they tend to flag fly unless its for sport - even then there's a fair number don't like it!

as to cynicism - no we don't all go along with that- I didn't read far enough - go along with the bollocks tho'
and would still stand by Crickson - he's good company and loves a debate - does tend to stir - but he's not nasty! Honest!

11th Aug 2006, 23:23

DocD says:

While others fall down...

11th Aug 2006, 23:26

Rich says:

VERY MINOR INCIDENT? Wow, can you pass me the crackpipe when you're done with it Crickson? Like, and hark at Cap'n Counterterrorism over there, how can you be so sure that the madrid, bali bombing etc weren't also carried out by local wannabes? You don't have to be Carlos the bleedin' Jackal to make a bomb and sit on a train, and you don't need to have Osama on speed dial to make a huge statement.

I really do wonder about some people's political knowledge and awareness sometimes, I really do.

Man,

11th Aug 2006, 23:33

hildegard says:

Who's this "we"? What does this fatuous tosh mean? Upside down Britons standing for what, against what, on what? Meaningless appeals to the bloody mid-brain, makes you wonder why we bothered evolving a forebrain at all if we're not going to use it...

11th Aug 2006, 23:34

crickson says:

Rich> How many people were run over that day? How many died of perfectly preventable disease? It's small fry. I don't like it. I don't support it, but it's not a major incident. It just isn't.

I said I'd offend someone. I'm tired of london wearing 7/7 like some badge of honour. Terrorist attacks didn't used to cause a national breakdown.

11th Aug 2006, 23:38

Rich says:

How many of those people were simultaneously run over as part of a conspiracy to murder people with cars, though? How many were deliberately infected? It's a category difference, man. Intent. Result. You haven't offended me, dude, but you've kind of blown my mind, y'nattamean?

11th Aug 2006, 23:44

crickson says:

Fifty-odd people killed in a market in Iraq = passing news story

Fifty-odd people killed in London = international panic.

It pisses me off. Don't think I wasn't one of those people trying to get through to family and friends to make sure they're alive. I was. All I'm saying is one relatively minor incident is just that. It's not a pattern. It's not a conspiracy. It's just a murderous act. Get over it.

11th Aug 2006, 23:50

Hotdog says:

Fifty-odd people killed in a market in Iraq = Life in a war zone

11th Aug 2006, 23:53

crickson says:

Ah well. This is how I feel. I realise not many agree with me, but that's nothing new. I'm not callous or uncaring. I won't reiterate the point endlessly, maybe I'll meet you both at a moblog meetup and debate some more. But I hope we'd find something less depressing to talk about.

11th Aug 2006, 23:57

Since we're all depressing each other, i'd like to point out that the U.S.A will eventually be part of the New British Empire.

America, you're on notice. :)

12th Aug 2006, 00:02

bronxelf says:

Well that's preferable to what we have now...

Though I'd still like to cast my vote for making NYC an independent free port.

12th Aug 2006, 00:03

crickson says:

ES> That cheered me up! "Ta : )

12th Aug 2006, 00:03

Joe says:

how the fucking hell have so many people commented on this post, when Rhys' (otherwise lovely) stylesheet, has made the post button almost invisible! :D

12th Aug 2006, 00:05

Ok. Fine. NYC gets to become a neutral port. And part of our good will to the people of NYC, each year citizens will get free Converse shoes.

12th Aug 2006, 00:07

Joe says:

and coffee? if there's free coffee, count me in.

12th Aug 2006, 00:08

bronxelf says:

Joe- I will let the coffee place on 129th and Broadway know to expect you.

12th Aug 2006, 00:13

Rich says:

Joe: Tab button is your friend! Well, it's mine.

Aaaaand relax.

12th Aug 2006, 00:17

Joe says:

The beer has made me forget what the tab button looks like.

12th Aug 2006, 00:19

Caine says:

ES, that's okay with me - better tea and beer. :) I'll go along with Elf though, and vote for NYC being a free port.

12th Aug 2006, 01:01

Joe says:

ok but only if you change the name back to New Amsterdam....there's only one York :)

12th Aug 2006, 01:07

bronxelf says:

Frankly I think we should rename it "Fuck Off" but that's probably not going to pass a ballot.

12th Aug 2006, 01:09

Actually Joe, i was thinking we rename Boston to New Amsterdam.

That'll teach 'em.

12th Aug 2006, 01:10

Viv says:

from here go to
http://moblog.co.uk/view.php?id=180751
/> then tag flag and follow it thro'

12th Aug 2006, 11:38

Geodyne says:

What you're all missing here is that the reason the Union Jack is upside down, is because that is what the state flag of Britain will look like, when it finally becomes a state of The Republic of Australia...

...although apparently that' not going to change Australia's status as lapdog of the US.

12th Aug 2006, 12:16

Rhys says:

Crickey, what a debate here. Joe, the 'add comment' button is clearly visible. It must have been the beer :)

12th Aug 2006, 23:06

Helen says:

I think the Union Flag is the right way up, it's just flying to the right of the flag pole (rather than the standard left).

It's just, back-to-front.

And yes, this picture makes me squirm a bit.
